He accidentally developed his slide guitar playing when he tried to sell his friend's resonator guitar to a guy who didn't know how to play slide guitar properly and ask for a demo. He named Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Iwan Fals, Sonny Landreth, Dave Matthews, and Son House, as his biggest musical influences. One of his social movements is to campaign the benefits of having household items and found objects to be transformed into playable musical instruments. "You don't need to spend lots of money to start playing music" is one of his quotes.
Topaz is known for his use of Duolian resonator guitars, a custom shovel guitar, a homemade "license plate" guitar and some other miscellanous roots instruments.
